Stage 1: Saint-Berthevin -> Château-Gontier-sur-Mayenne
Stage 1 of the Boucles de la Mayenne took the riders from Saint-Berthevin to Château-Gontier-sur-Mayenne. After yesterday’s prologue, the race concluded with four laps of a local circuit and was expected to end in a sprint, where Team Picnic PostNL looked to support Frits Biesterbos. Early in the stage, five riders formed the breakaway of the day. One rider dropped back early, while the remaining four continued before Baptiste Veistroffer attacked solo from the move. He held out until 12 kilometres from the finish before being caught by the peloton. That set the scene for the sprint teams to organise their lead-outs on the local circuit. On the uphill drag to the line in Château-Gontier-sur-Mayenne, Olav Kooij proved fastest on the day, while Biesterbos finished just outside the top 10 in 12th.
