One-day racing in the Basque Country saw Team Picnic PostNL and the peloton take on a slightly more challenging edition of San Sebastian than previous years. It was a big fight in the opening part of the day to make the break but eventually a group went clear, with the team remaining in the peloton. Juan Martinez was involved in a crash but was able to return to the bunch.
Coming into the second half of the day the longer and harder climbs started and the race of attrition began. The squad rallied around each other well and Bjorn Koerdt made it over the Erlaitz in the front group of the race. Coming into the final brutally steep climb of Murgil Tontorra the young Brit had to let go of the wheels when a fierce tempo was set, ultimately riding in a group to the line, leading the team home on the day.
