Stage 4: Valtournenche -> Breuil Cervinia 

The traditional final stage of the race saw full-gas racing from the start. Development Team Picnic PostNL tried to infiltrate the break once more, with Lennes Jacobs making it into a very promising move early on. However, the peloton weren’t happy with the composition and closed that one down. After that point, the squad rallied around Finn O’Brien who gave it his best on the climb to the line; ending the stage just outside the top ten on the day and finishing in 12th place overall.

Stage 3: Saint-Christophe ->  Saint-Christophe

The tough mountainous terrain continued in Italy for our Development program on Saturday, with a big fight to make the day’s breakaway. After some good teamwork Finn O’Brien made the move for the team and they built up an advantage of around two minutes. However, the peloton chased hard behind and because he was the best placed on GC, the rest of the break looked at O’Brien to do a large portion of the work. The group were eventually caught but the youngster fought all the way to the line to finish inside the top 20 on the day and with that move up on GC to 12th place.

Stage 2: Hône -> Forte di Bard

After yesterday’s opening uphill individual TT where he placed fourth, Finn O’Brien was once again first over the line for the Development Team on today’s second stage, a hilly 148 kilometre test with a spectacular final ascent to the line. O’Brien crossed in 20th place and dropped back just outside the top 10 overall to 13th, moving to third in the Best Young Rider Classification.

Stage 1: Passy -> Passe Plaine Joux

The Giro Valle d’Aosta kicked off with a 10.5 kilometre individual uphill time trial deciding the opening GC of the race. A consistent steady climb rather than super steep slopes was what lay ahead of the guys and it was Finn O’Brien who came home quickest for the Development team.

O’Brien finished an impressive fourth place on the day and with it took the white jersey of the Best Young Rider Classification heading into tomorrow’s hilly 147.5 kilometre second stage.
