Kuurne – Brussel – Kuurne
Opening Weekend wrapped-up for the team on Sunday afternoon with a challenging edition of Kuurne – Brussel – Kuurne. An attacking start to the day saw Frits Biesterbos make an early move which was brought back, before attacking once more to form part of the day’s breakaway. Working well together, the break made it over the hills and cobbles, while behind it was a race of attrition in the peloton. Biesterbos’ break was caught by a reduced peloton that included Pavel Bittner as they headed back towards Kuurne, and things split even more in the wind. Ultimately, Bittner surfed the wheels in the sprint final but ended up on a lead-out that never made it forward, and empty a bit after an illness earlier in the week, couldn’t compete for a top result come the line.
