Sunday afternoon saw Team Picnic PostNL take on their last one-day race of the season at Paris – Tours, with its short punchy hills and gravel road sections later in the day. From the outset the team rode well as a unit with the goal of coming into the finale with finishers Tobias Lund Andresen and Nils Eekhoff in a position to go for a result.
With the early break caught at around 50 kilometres to go, some good teamwork saw Eekhoff and Lund Andresen make it into the reduced front peloton of around 40 riders. The race of attrition continued and things further thinned down with the duo hanging tough, but bad luck befell Lund Andresen who suffered a puncture at around 25 kilometres remaining and would never make it back to the front. Eekhoff followed some moves but ultimately a group went up the road to fight for the win, while Eekhoff showed a good turn of speed to take 11th from the chasing bunch.
