Pfeiffer Georgi 5th after strong team ride at Trofeo Alfredo Binda

16th March: Luino – Cittiglio

One of the oldest races on the Women’s calendar, Trofeo Alfredo Binda saw a challenging parcours once again and the traditional lap circuit around Cittiglio in the finale. It was an attacking start to the day with Francesca Barale representing Team Picnic PostNL in a promising break of 14 riders. However, with around 30 kilometres to go they were brought back and the attacking started again.

Nienke Vinke and Marta Cavalli were particularly active in following and making the next moves. On the last lap Cavalli rode strongly to make a lead group of six over the last ascent, but the gap was small and things were reeled in once more. Then she helped position Pfeiffer Georgi, who had climbed brilliantly to make the reduced peloton, ahead of the sprint. Kicking all the way to the line and not giving up, Georgi was able to take a great fifth place at the line.

Georgi expressed: “I’m really happy with how we rode as a team today and felt the full commitment from the girls all day. Marta showed her strength being able to follow the final move and for me it was a matter of surviving and then if it came back together going for the sprint. I’m happy I still felt strong in the sprint but started too far back in the last corner which meant I had too many places to make up. But I think we can be satisfied with a fifth place and take this momentum forward for the rest of the spring.”
