Team Picnic PostNL and Volvo Car Nederland have extended their long-standing partnership. With the introduction of the new fully electric Volvo EX60 into the fleet, both organisations are once again taking an important step towards their shared ambition to further increase sustainability within cycling.
Since the start of the partnership in 2021, the collaboration has grown into much more than a traditional sponsorship agreement. Both organisations are united by shared values such as sustainability, safety, innovation and the ambition to continuously improve. This shared vision has formed the foundation of a partnership that has been visible for years at the highest level of international cycling.
A key focus within the partnership is the electrification of the vehicle fleet. What started with the first electric test cars has developed into Team Picnic PostNL becoming the frontrunner within professional cycling.
In 2023, the team took an important step by completing the full Tour de France with two fully electric coach cars within the Men’s program. In 2025, fully electric coach cars were used across the men’s, Women’s and Development programs. In 2026, all coach cars are fully electric.
From 2027, the fully electric Volvo EX60 will be added to the fleet, alongside the current EX40. With its advanced 800V architecture, the EX60 offers an impressive driving range and fast-charging capabilities, making it ideally suited to the long race days and tight logistical planning within professional cycling.
As part of the partnership extension, both parties also want to explore how larger vehicles within cycling can be further electrified. This includes looking into the possibilities for team buses and trucks.
Team Picnic PostNL, Head of Commerce, Jente Rijpstra: “Our partnership with Volvo shows what is possible when two organisations share the same long-term vision. We do not only want to be competitive in the race, but also lead the way in how we organise our sport. The steps we have taken together in the field of electrification show that innovation, sustainability and elite sport can go hand in hand. With the arrival of the EX60, we can take another important step.”
Volvo Car Nederland, Commercial Operations Director & Deputy MD, Frits Giesbers: “Team Picnic PostNL has shown for years that the ambition to become more sustainable is being translated into concrete action. The conditions in professional cycling are demanding, with long distances, intense race days and complex logistics. This makes it a strong environment to demonstrate what electric driving can already mean today. We look forward to further expanding the electrification of the fleet and continuing our successful partnership. The mentality of Team Picnic PostNL, Keep Challenging, also fits well with how we look at innovation: continuing to improve, continuing to test and daring to take the next step together.”
With the extension of the partnership, Volvo Car Nederland and Team Picnic PostNL look forward to continuing to build a collaboration in the coming years that fits the ambitions of both organisations.
