La Vuelta Femenina makes its return to the calendar this coming weekend – with an exciting mix of racing set to whet the appetite of the Grand Tour racing aficionados.
Fighting it out over seven stages the peloton will kick things off with a team time trial – which is a unique event on the Women’s calendar – so fans watching along the roadside in Barcelona will be in for a spectacle. From there, a mix of rolling and flat terrain should give those with a fast kick a chance of going for a result over the next few days; although the attackers will like the placement of the climb on stage four. Stages five and seven will go a long way in shaping the overall classification of the race, with two challenging summit finishes on Lagunas de Neila and Alto de Cotobello laying ahead of the peloton.
Aiming to build on promising recent performances heading into the race, Team Picnic PostNL once again intend to be at the proverbial pointy end of proceedings throughout the week of racing.
Team Picnic PostNL coach Albert Timmer expressed: “La Vuelta marks the first Grand Tour of the season and offers a wide range of opportunities across its varied stages. We’re lining up with a strong squad that can be active every day. Nienke will have the freedom to see how far she can go in the general classification, while Megan will be our finisher for the faster finales. Overall, we aim to race aggressively, be present in all types of scenarios, and seize every opportunity that comes our way.”
