Stage 7: Phélan-le-Petit -> Dinan

The final 148km test of this year’s Tour de Bretagne was a chaotic affair with five laps of a cobbled drag in Dinan to finish. The Development team worked hard on the front of the peloton to control the breakaway of five riders before the circuits. In the end, van der Werff was our best finisher just under one minute behind the winner on the stage. On the GC front, Mees Vlot was our highest placed overall after a tough week of racing.

Stage 6: Plaintel -> La Bouëxière

The penultimate day of racing at the Tour de Bretagne saw the peloton traverse a 181 kilometre route, with multiple laps in the last 40 kilometres of a loop around the finish town. Like most of the racing action this week, it was a fast day out with plenty of attacks, but the peloton always remained in control and caught the breakaway heading into the finale. The Development program then worked to set up a sprint finish, with Thom van der Werff getting up to take 11th place on the punch to the line.

Stage 5: Plogonnec -> Lanfains

The hardest stage of the race so far saw an attritional day in the saddle where the fatigue really built up throughout the afternoon. Lots of attacks meant the pace remained high, and on the punchy run-in to the finish line Mees Vlot just lost contact with the reduced front peloton.

Stage 4: Ploërmel -> Briec

A similar aggressive day of racing to the previous afternoon, stage four was a hard day in the saddle on the grippy rolling Brittany terrain. Once more, the race split into several groups over the climbs with Thom van der Werff and Mees Vlot towards the front, but in the end two riders from the break would fight it out for the stage win.

Stage 3: Drefféac -> Concoret

A hillier day out on the third day of racing saw plenty of attacks and a hard pace set throughout the afternoon. The Development program made multiple attempts to get into the day’s move, but ultimately a group went clear without them. Coming into the finale those ahead were caught and a reduced peloton headed to the line, where Mees Vlot brought the team hoe after being held up by a crash.

Stage 2: Bains-sur-Oust -> Missillac

Another punchy day of racing saw a five rider break escape after a fast opening to the stage, with all of the Development program riders in the peloton. Although it seemed as if the bunch had the gap under control, they were never able to close the final metres in the last ten kilometres and a trio from the break stayed away to fight for the win.

Stage 1: Redon -> Pipriac

One of the most hotly contested .2 level races of the season got underway on Saturday afternoon for Team Picnic PostNL’s Development program. It was a fast and fierce opening stage with a lot of attacks and regroupings, before a large bunch of around 30 riders went clear in the closing 40 kilometres. Only Mees Vlot represented the team in the move, but he was active in following several counter attacks. Ultimately, the group was caught and a big bunch sprint decided the day with Milan De Ceuster leading the team home.
