Stage 4: Palazuelos de Muñó -> Briviesca

Stage 4 of the Vuelta a Burgos covered 178 kilometres and was expected to favour the sprinters. Three riders went clear early in the day and built an advantage of up to 4’15”. The peloton gradually brought the gap down, catching the final breakaway rider with 16 kilometres remaining and setting up the expected sprint. After a fast finale, Brennan proved fastest to take the stage victory. Bjorn Koerdt led Team Picnic PostNL across the line just outside the top 10.

Stage 3: Excavaciones Mikel -> Balneario de Corconte

The difficulty of the stage finishes at Vuelta a Burgos continued to ramp up this week, with a challenging seven kilometre ascent at nine percent on the menu, before a short descent to the line. Team Picnic PostNL started the day with Bjorn Koerdt wearing the white jersey of best young rider, and had multiple riders well up on GC. Coming into the climb the break were caught and a strong tempo from the main GC contender teams was set, and it became a case of everyone riding and fighting to the top as best as they could where Development program rider Matteo Vanhuffel produced an impressive performance to take tenth place on the day.

Stage 2: Arcos de la Llana -> Pineda de la Sierra

A slightly more challenging profile than the opening day awaited the riders for the second day of racing in the Vuelta a Burgos. Instead of the one kilometre or so climb to the line, it was instead a three kilometre effort that the bunch would have to contend with come the finish. The stage was well controlled by the peloton who slowly reeled in the break and set up a showdown on the last climb. Team Picnic PostNL worked solidly together to move forward, with Bjorn Koerdt wearing the white jersey as best young rider. In the last few hundred metres the pace really ramped up and Onley took an explosive win, while Koerdt battled to tenth place just behind, moving up to second on GC come the end of the day. It was a strong all-round performance by the squad with youngsters Jurgen Zomermaand and Matteo Vanhuffel finishing alongside Mattia Gaffuri in the group just behind Koerdt.
