Team Picnic PostNL continues to optimise its performance nutrition strategy as they welcome Freasy as their partner for fresh frozen meals. Through this innovative collaboration, Freasy will co-create and provide the team’s riders with nutritious, fresh frozen meals at home to underpin both health and performance, ensuring optimal training and recovery.
Personalized nutrition is the future, and the team has worked closely with their partners for many years to develop an optimal nutrition strategy for each rider, both on and off the bike. This strategy is tailored to each rider’s unique physiology and daily energy expenditure, ensuring they are fully fuelled to perform at their highest level. It also supports complete recovery, promoting repeatability and overall well-being.
During stage races, special cooking trucks are on the road and go from hotel to hotel, stocked by first title partner Picnic, ensuring all meals are freshly prepared and managed in-house. Additionally, through their close collaboration with dsm-firmenich, the Team has developed a new world-class sports nutrition and supplement assortment. With the addition of Freasy, that nutrition focus expands to include meals surrounding training sessions in the athletes’ home environments.
The collaboration focuses on co-creating frozen, balanced meals that perfectly meet the team’s needs in terms of nutritional requirements, taste, dietary preferences and sustainability.
CEO of Freasy, Eveline Nederlof, shares her thoughts on the partnership: “It’s truly special that all the team’s partners contribute their expertise to enhance the performance of the riders. We do what we excel at—creating fully balanced, nutritious frozen meals that are not only delicious but also sustainable.”
Personalised nutrition strategies
Team Picnic PostNL’s Head of Science Narelle Neumann explains the ultimate goal: “Achieving balanced meals for each rider, tailored to their individual energy expenditure and nutritional needs for all meal moments throughout the day is the ultimate goal. Our nutrition during races is already meticulously planned, but now we are expanding that focus to provide easy, nutritious meals for the riders’ training at home, while maintaining the same professional standards. This ambitious goal requires extensive research and development so we will start with the young talents in our Development Program and will gradually expand this to the WorldTour Men’s and Women’s Programs.”
